The FreshStart Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP)

In chemistry, radicals (often called free radicals) are atoms, molecules, or ions with unpaired electrons — an energetically unstable state that makes them highly reactive. The hydroxyl radical (OH•) is one of the most reactive particles in nature, sometimes called “the detergent of the atmosphere,” because it breaks down airborne compounds into harmless molecules like carbon dioxide and water.

The FreshStart Process

The patented FreshStart Process replicates this natural cleaning process at very high concentrations, using hydrogen peroxide and water as the source of hydroxyl radicals — increasing the natural formation rate roughly sixfold. Ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and ultraviolet light work together, producing an effect far stronger than the sum of the individual elements: an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP).

Step by Step

  1. The technician performs an on-site assessment, confirms preparation steps are complete, records ambient air conditions, and sets up equipment.
  2. The technician secures the premises — no people or pets inside (“Lock-Out Status”) — and powers on the equipment.
  3. About 20 minutes in, the technician re-enters wearing protective equipment to confirm concentration levels and equipment function.
  4. For the treatment duration, the space stays in Lock-Out Status while hydroxyl radical concentrations are generated and maintained throughout — including inside HVAC ductwork.
  5. At the end of the treatment period, the technician re-enters and shuts down the equipment.
  6. Doors, windows, and the HVAC system bring the treated air back to match outdoor ambient levels — typically 30 minutes to an hour.
  7. Once readings meet or beat EPA/OSHA standards, the technician records final readings and clears the space for re-occupancy.
  8. Equipment is removed and paperwork completed.
  9. Occupants are notified the treatment is complete.

Note: the FDA approved the core technology behind this process in 2001 for sanitizing and preserving certain foods. Most houseplants do fine during treatment; delicate flowering plants may see some lightening in color.
